Aftercare

After yourdermal filler.

Filler settles over about two weeks. Most of this is simple. One section, the warning signs, is important to read now, before you need it.

01

The first 24 hours

  • Ice gently, 10 minutes at a time, with a clean wrapped cold pack.
  • Sleep with your head elevated tonight, on an extra pillow.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, hot showers, saunas, and hot yoga.
  • Avoid alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, fish oil, and vitamin E unless they are medically required. They increase bruising.
  • Do not touch, press, or massage the treated area.

02

The first two weeks

  • Lips: expect swelling for 3 to 7 days, sometimes longer. The first week is not your final result.
  • Cheeks, chin, jawline, and folds: settling takes about 2 weeks. Wait until then to judge the result.
  • No dental procedures for 2 weeks. Pressure during dental work can shift filler.
  • No facials or laser treatments for 2 weeks.
  • Air travel within 48 to 72 hours can temporarily increase swelling.
  • If you are prone to cold sores and were prescribed an antiviral, take it exactly as directed.

03

What is normal

  • Swelling, tenderness, and some bruising.
  • Small lumps or firmness that soften over the first two weeks.
  • Mild redness at the injection points.
  • Results that look fuller at first and settle over 2 weeks. They typically last 6 to 18 months, and filler can be dissolved if ever needed.

04 · Important

Call the studio immediately

These are signs of a rare but serious complication, a vascular event. Early treatment resolves it, and every minute matters. Do not wait and see. Call right away if, especially in the first 72 hours, you notice:

  • Severe pain that is out of proportion to a normal injection
  • Whitening (blanching) of the skin in or around the treated area
  • Dusky, purple, or mottled skin that does not fade
  • Any change in your vision
  • Swelling that keeps getting worse after day 3

05 · Emergency

When to call 911 or go to the emergency room

Call 911 first, then the studio, for:

  • Any loss of vision, blurred vision, or vision changes, if you cannot reach the studio at once
  • Difficulty breathing, wheezing, or a tight throat
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
  • Widespread hives, or feeling faint, dizzy, or confused
